We’re almost done with the new bridge on Thomas Creek Trail. It’s gone in with 17 people volunteering a combined 115 hours over 4 days. Check out our project page for info on the other two bridges we will be building. If you like that you can complete this loop without getting your feet wet next spring, please consider a donation to our trail building fund so we can install the next two bridges. See last week’s news story on KOLO Channel 8.
On June 14th we had a grand reopening party for the Lower Corral Trail construction. The project has been a huge sucess for everyone involved in terms of PR, community support, partnerships, knowledge growth and building really cool (legal) mountain bike features in the Forest. BIKE magazine ran an online article last week that got a lot of hits nationally, you can READ IT HERE. In addition there’s been some more national coverage with mention in the Huffington Post about 5 trails that deliver stoke and sustainability.
The plan below shows what’s been built and not built. You can see we have even more features to build in the future with your help! It’s amazing what can happen with strong volunteers, community support and just a little bit of money.
We have no plans to build the rest this year, we’re out of money and it’s too dry right now. Things could change if money becomes available for the Fall or next Spring.
The biggest thanks needs to go to the US Forest Service. Without Jacob, Garrett and their bosses this project never would have happened. They came up with the idea about the same time we were getting TAMBA back together. Then they contracted the design while we organized community input. Finally the USFS let us run with construction. Please keep talking up this project and drumming up support for TAMBA and future projects because this is just the beginning. If the business community can get on board with supporting projects like this we’ll accomplish a lot more. Thanks!
Clear your calendar for June 14th Corral Party and volunteer trail building. We have a big day planned partnering with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship again. They’ll be bringing the party trailer, beers, BBQ and tunes. We’ll also be joined by some fine folks over at BIKE magazine that will be in Tahoe working on a feature story for an upcoming issue. Free event, but please RSVP so we have an idea of how much food, drink and trail tools are needed.
For more info on how the project has been coming together check out this video put together by First Track Productions.
We will also be working on Corral Sunday June 8th, we could really use the help. Please show up at 9 a.m. to help buff out some of the new Corral features, please wear long pants and sleeves for the trail work. Then join us for some test riding and post work party!
